THE BODY
Consume,
Restore, Reproduce
The
body is governed by instinct. People have very limited control over
their own body; however, there are some exceptions (monks could be
considered an example of such). If you do not believe this is true,
hold your breath for 5 minutes. Odds are you will not be able to do
so for the whole duration before your body overrides your will and
forces you to inhale and breathe. Most urges people have are a result
of the body's control over us: things such as hunger, feeling tired,
and sex.
Many
things about the body is regulated and controlled by chemicals, as
opposed to our will. As such, any other principle or aspect cannot
overcome anything that the body wills. Chemical-based addictions are
a good example of the body's strong hold over people. Without both
the mind and soul both committed to the task of overcoming such addictions,
any attempt will result in failure.
The
two aspects from the mind and the body that are most closely related
to the body are knowledge, and emotion. Both these aspects have a
strong influence over the overall condition of the body. Emotion has
a strong influence on the body, invoking general changes throughout,
causing chemical shifts to compensate for whatever mood we find ourselves
in. Knowledge has a slightly more indirect effect on our bodies. Having
knowledge is what usually prevents the body from coming into life
threatening harm. Such has having the knowledge to avoid fire or any
other sort of dangerous situation. However, if it is a question of
knowledge or emotion that has more influence over the body, either
can win out. It is common to hear of how emotion triumphs knowledge,
especially in the light of how people think with their hearts far
more than their minds. On a whole however, knowledge overcomes many
lesser emotions. It is the pure unfiltered, unfettered emotions that
can become dangerous.
It
is perhaps a taboo subject, but an important one nonetheless. As a
male, I only really have insight into one-half of the equation.
Women
supposedly go crazy a few days of each month. The thing is, men are
crazy every day of the month. It is a curse of sorts, certainly a
bane of western society. I am thankful that I am able to tame my beast
on a daily basis; I think it keeps me relatively sane. Unfortunately
there are some men who do go insane. It is not very good odds when
50% of the population is crazy to begin with. The step into insanity
isn't that far off.
This
insanity breeds many monsters who abuse the helpless and the innocent
for their own sexual gratification. This insanity is due to gender,
not wealth, or status. The age demographic that is affected by this
madness is wide ranging. This isn't to say that women are incapable
of such acts, but it is either not as common or simply not as publicized
as acts of sexual depravity preformed by men.
If
sex was not such a taboo subject, if people were taught how to have
fun with it (and gods forbid sex be fun) in ways in where people aren't
afraid, then perhaps we would see less sex related crimes.
As
creatures of this world, sex is still one of the three main primal
urges: Eat, sleep, have sex. Repressing sex is like asking a starving
man to sit in front of a buffet and to not eat. It is just not going
to happen.
